Topic: IE Warning Bubble

I've disabled Flash in IE at work because ads on certain sites I visit seem to frequently crash my browser. Now my problem is that whenever I visit a site that uses Flash I get this annoying bubble on the status bar:



Anyone know how to turn that aggravating thing off?

Dunno and it probably won't help you much, but if I were you I'd use a better browser.

You know poi, I'm sick to death of seeing that response.

How do you know I'm not using a better browser? There are certain intranet pages here at work that are built for IE and don't work well in FF. So I'm stuck using IE for those pages because I have no desire to fight the corporate beast for something like that.

There are also some pages out there on the web that still don't work or look right in any broswer besides IE so what do you suggest I do on those? Stop visiting them? Email the programmer incessantly until they redo those pages?

Fact is I use FF for about 98% of my web browsing but there are a couple sites that I read that just don't work well with it so I have to resort to IE and it would be nice if the Flash ads didn't crash my browser while I was reading them.

Roger that.

On my side I'm sick of online annoyances such as non-standards sites, flash ads, js ads, unnecessary scrollbars, sites that don't work in < 1024 ... I frantically block /black-list any of them or use fit to width. I've only used IE for testing reasons for like 2-3 years now.

Just remembered of proxomitron. It might help you filter out the ads for your IE. But, that's a workaround and the corporate beast may not allow to install such tool.

Does the crashing sites also crash in other browsers ? could it be your version of Flash ? Have you tried with IE7 ?

I can't install any new version of IE or update my current one because my company has that all locked down.

Basically the problems only happen on one page (a sports messageboard) and not all that often. When it does crash though it's always because of Flash.

Is your workstation completely locked or you can install applications and tweak some settings in the setup panel ? ( being at home on my french laptop I'm not sure if 'setup panel' is the right term in english )

You could eventually block the Flash crashers via Windows's firewall ... but the annoying bubble might appear in your systray then

Judging by the color depth, I am willing to believe he is running a terminal server session under a thin client, so I don't think he has a lot of liberties when it comes to control over the thing.

Since I have never bothered to do it, I will ask how do you disable flash. I could try to see how to "isolate" the vent and see what can I find. Hopefully In a mmatter of a couple of hours I'd be able to find something.

The color depth has to do with the fact that I used MS Paint to save that screenshot as a gif. That's all I have on my workstation until I get Photoshop installed here pretty soon.

How long ago did you disable Flash, krets?

Most Windows bubbles go away after awhile by themselves.

But there is normally a way to disable the normal windows bubbles in Windows, so perhaps there is also a way to do it for the IE as well. Probably under properties somewhere - disable warning Bubbles or somesuch.

BTW - there is a plug-in for FF that simulates IE - check the IE Tab - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

I use it at work, to open some of the webbased tools that we use (and were meant for IE only). It works fine.
