Topic: Opera Security Violation Overriding? (Page 1 of 1)

Hey guys

I'm trying to do XMLHttpRequests on remote servers for information querying purposes (ie. screenscraping). Now, this is obviously a security violation, which is why I need to request permission from the user.

In firefox, this is pretty easy:

netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege ("UniversalBrowserRead")

Does anybody know of a way to do a similar sort of request in Opera?

There is no equivalent of netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege( ) in Opera. This might be a useful feature if the UI is clear for the users and do not let evil people trick the users to grant higher privileges by mistake.

However some relaxed builds of Opera 8.5 were released for testing purpose with Opera Platform.

Widgets also have a relaxed security model. And basically all you need to turn a web page into a widget is a config.xml file to set the name and default resolution and ZIP the whole thing.
