If possible, I would recommend another clean install in the following manner: - download and burn/store/etc. all the drivers you will need for your hardware. This way, you won't need to connect to the internet for anything - install Windows 2k Professional and nothing else, and DO NOT connect your computer to any type of network. Seriously, no physical connection to any external network until near the end. - install the Windows 2k service pack 4 - install drivers for your hardware and reboot after each one - I would recommend you install your intellimouse software first, even before installing your video card drivers. You'll be stuck at 800x600 VGA, but at least you will be able to begin the deduction process. - start installing software and note the behaviour of your PC after each install. This will let you eliminate possibilities and get to the root of the problem. - if everything is installed and no problems arise, then make sure your shields are up cap'n and connect to the internet I realize that this is a lot of work, but a methodic approach lets you systematically narrow down the source of the problem.
