I've only ever liked him as drug addicts and/or weirdos a la his roles in Wonder Boys and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, both films I enjoyed immensely. It could just be that at this point in his life he's just a better actor or at least getting better roles. Perhaps he'll do well with the drunk part. Anyways, I find comic book movies usually depend so much more on the director than the cast (moreso than all other movies, which of course also depend so much on the director generally more than anything else IMO). Compare X-Men 1 & 2 (directed by Bryan Singer) with what I felt was an atrocious X-Men 3 (directed by Brett Ratner, also responsible for the similarly poorly-directed After the Sunset and Red Dragon, both of which I thought could have been so much better had another director been responsible for them); same cast, but 3 makes me want to cry - I'm wicked glad I bought the X-Men 1 & 2 special boxed set before 3 even came out. Not sure what I think of Jon Favreau as a director yet, but I hope he does well.
