Good job; it'd be great to see it back to the original sepia colour... hint hint

looks great Bobicus!

On the second picture there is a spot on the bottom left corner and the top right where it looks like the clone tool kind of skidded. Not sure how to describe it. But other than that, it looks good.

I think it is a fantastic job of removing the damage and debris. The edited versions do not appear to have been edited, and do not appear to be missing anything, as is sometimes the case with these jobs.

What I would like to see in the final version:

1) background. it seems odd that these photos are now sitting on pure white, and no overlap shadows are in place.

2) a bit more crispness. always tough on this type of photo, and we could argue the semantics of historic appropriateness for days, but I am craving some sharper edges here and there.

3) deeper contrast. obviously you don't want to go nuts, but it seems to lack a little depth of shadow.

Is this a real project, or just an exercise? If real, is there a personal relationship to the subject?

Anyway, this is good quality work, as we've come to expect from you, Bob.

Db et al.... some of the results I get doing similiar stuff are very mixed and not entirely related to the quality of the starting images. I can't seem to pick a trend in those results; is there any particular order that works better in cleaning up... eg cloning before d&b etc. Normally I leave contrast and unsharp mask to later, but sometimes it seems to work better doing that early in the piece.... particularly for out of focus stuff..... ?!?

Any tips gratefully received

Thanks for the C&C, all.
Here is the final :

I did sharpen a tad, but I like them soft, in this case.. The White background is covered by the dual vigenette frame. Real project ? As in getting paid ?no. It was done for a friend I think it`s her great grandmother.
Generally I leave the sharpening and stuff for last. No point sharpening the damage, too. Sometimes, tho, it helps to adjust contrast and color first, and then just touch up as a final adjustment.

Thx for the tips db.... btw the sepia looks great; I dunno what it is, but sepia really seems to set the date as ? "before"

Maybe 'cause I remember what seems like a hundred years ago, when I had ta print sepias of the plans that we usta make.... the memories of that ammonia filled room still make me wanna puke

Looks good. softness is nice, especially with this subject, as you mentioned. But that little bit of sharpness helps a lot.

As for the 'real project' - meant just what you said. Was just curious if you were doing it for someone, or jsut as an exercise.

Yea, but tedious is my middle name.
A difficult resto has a special kind of reward for me, too. I like em.
