Well, you don't always have to be that far north neccessarily. Under normal conditions, yes, way way up north is where you're most likely to be able to see the lights; however, on rare occasions like this, they can be seen much farther south. This time around, they reached as least as far south as Des Moines, IA (~41º N) http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap061218.html Even down into Arizona (34º N) http://spaceweather.com/aurora/images2006/14dec06c/Schur1.jpg (From: http://spaceweather.com/aurora/gallery_01dec06_page5.htm). Granted, that far south and there isn't much to see, but they're still there. An Ozone calendar for these events sounds good to me :) -- Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature.
