Hello

First, happy new year for all members.

I stumbled upon this website, for a guy selling wadded papers! :P

http://origamiboulder.com/

Ofcourse I am not advertising this site, anyway, who would buy wadded papers, or would you?

... the same people who would buy a pet rock.

I must say that while it's obvious and pure silliness (with a potential money-making lean0 I find this site to be most amusing and origianl. I have often joked "here's an origami football" when screwing up a piece of paper - if only I'd truly realised the art I was creating.

While the site is a momentary amusement, it's the emails from "dumb dumbs" section that really had me in stitches. The possibility that people actually take time to sit and type an email to express their outrage and offence is just hilarious to me. It reminds me of Maddox Xmission - possibly one of the most entertaining sites I've ever visited - in that it highlights the pettiness and poor humour of a large number of people.

One mailer even berates the 'artist' for being racist in his parody of a Japanese American speaking poor English. I say "phooey"!

there was an advert for some sort of sizzling chicken sauce a while back, where a black footballer hammed-up a faux English upper-class accent as he introduced the product - it wasn't even a very good attempt, as his obvious London-rudeboy-cum-yardie, slap-dash consonant pronunciation was hard to mask. I would have thought that reversing the situation would bring riots in Brixton for being racially offensive, but the success of comic characters like Ali-G lead me to think otherwise.

As for the boulder itself. If someone pays $10 for a balled-up wad of paper, then I really can't argue, considering the great steaming piles of sh*t I've seen strewn about the Tate Modern here in London, that it isn't in fact, art! To be perfectly honest, while I wouldn't waste my money on an "origami boulder", I couldn't possibly persecute the site's creator for acquiring fame or riches from this. He is showing more creative talent and originality than about 90% of so-called celebrities and artists today. He is also showing a good sense of humour - funnier to me by a long way, than the embarrassing antics of David Brent in The Office - and consistency in his follow-ups.

What the hell - I'm going to go the whole hog and applaud the audacity of it. Bloody well-done that man! It put a smile on my face from ear-to-ear, and that's a rare thing for an SAD sufferer like me on a grey and miserable day like this. I actually laughed out loud at the concept of the 'performance art' option. Absolute genius!

Thanks for sharing that, lallous - it has cheered me up to no end!

I didn't read the whole thing. I do have one complaint as I was glancing it over. He should get rid of the word 'wadded' and stick to just 'origami boulder'.

I'm gonna glance over my grammar book because I can't remember rules for quotes and italics.

edit:

A few weeks ago I was going through my buddy's Woman's orignami books. One of her books is about making paper from scratch for origami and things. One of the chapters is about making origami boulders from home brew paper. You know, landscaping for your animal origami diaramas. Beautiful work.
