No it doesn't check your email, you can post bogus content there. Purpose: People with website hosting that want to share it and get recognition (that part's still in development) can do so. Also, people looking for free web hosting for their (insert popular character) shrines and Midi Archives without URL's that include "geocities" can do so. Like the late "pick-me.net".
