Topic: IE testing? (Page 1 of 1)

I am not quite sure in which forum to start this thread, and yes I shall check the FAQ in a minute, but I think it is still worth discussing...

Anyway, I had a fit of anxiety concerning cross browser testing yesterday, and reverted from IE7 to IE6 to test my website (although I mostly use FireFox); you may imagine how I got to the conclusion that I ought to check all my professional websites with IE from at least version 5 (sod IE4).

I have read many articles on the subject, and found two solutions that I think would be worth a try:

- Install multiple versions of IE on your PC
- IE6 and IE7 Running on a Single Machine


What I need here is web savvy people's opinion on the matter, either to point the best solution out to me, or to tell me to get a life...

Ok, I have now read the FAQ and found this interesting post started by poi, where Pugzli mentions a tool called Optool. How well does this work?

The solution I mentioned in my post, long ago, worked like a charm for me. I could test with basically any version of IE. From 3 to 6.

Sorry, dunno how well it works with IE7. My need for such test bed have drastically decreased since I joined Opera and work mainly on widgets and on mobile phone and devices ( who said wiiiii ? )

I've tried out Opera on the Wii and I was very pleased by what I saw, sure there are a few areas for improvement, but it's great to see a proper browser being used for a console, Nintendo made a good move there.

I've seen the spech for the PS3 browser and it sounds ropey to me, based on the same browser they used for their PSP. Well done Nintendo and well done Opera. Poi, any clues as to when the browser will go final and if it will be free?

Just for the update, I have installed the multiple IE version, which is, I think just an update to your suggestion, poi. It works fine as far as I know.

From what I have heard, the browser is supposed to be ready sometime this spring, and will be free until June. After that, it'll cost 500 points if I'm not mistaken.
I don't think this information is confirmed from either Opera or Nintendo though. Poi probably knows the details, but I'm not sure he's allowed to tell everything
