"poorly packaged" No doubt about it but when it comes to sites like that I tend to overlook the shortcomings and embrace the old bit... 'content is king.' Not that you can't, as Steve on his site has pointed out, have both ... but I think the people who put up such sites are interested more in making the information available than the "package." It's kinda the opposite of what they say in the restaurant business... 'You don't sell the steak... you sell the sizzle." In this case they're selling steak and I'm ok with that. =) Now hijacking my own thread... sort of... =) I'll go from a great resource to a possibly great source for those of you/us who venture from the virtual to... "hands-on" (now who sed dat? =) ) get your hands dirty... put it on paper sort of thing. Just sent a friend a note that included the following. "Oh... before I forget AGAIN... Don't know where you buy or look for supplies... paper, pencils paint etc. but in case the Salvation Army's "Sally Ann" isn't on your list... make it so Cappy! When you enter just ask someone 'where do you keep your school/ office supplies...paper, pens that sort of thing?' It is amazing what you'll find. Last week for example I picked up a box of 12, virtually new, Staedtler Watercolour pencils for 99 cents. Retail... tax in those'd run about 16 bux. 3 sheets of 140 pound (15x24) water colour paper... 99 cents. Bags and bags on pencil crayons...some of them high-end. Staedtler Technical pens and high end articulated compasses/dividers 49 cents. What's happening of course is that people are clearing out somebody's house... somebody who may have been a bit of an artist...and little odds and ends like that just don't make it to auction. Most of the time it just gets boxed up and sent to Sally... or some similar place. I do find tho' that Sally is about the best for this sort of thing. Once or twice a week... check it out. Ask them 'what days do the trucks usually come in?' And if you have something specific you're after... say... some large picture frames... in your oh so dulcet tones.. "Can I leave a request in your 'Wish Book' please? I'm looking for some large picture frames." Provide them with some minimum specs... they take your name and number and when new shipments arrive they go thru the wish book and if what you're looking for comes in... they'll give you a call... you go down and decide. It really is a good resource... you just have to know how to use it." Of course there are many who can afford to 'buy new.' But as someone much wiser once said. 'Only gentiles buy retail' =) ___________________________________________________________________________ "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it."
