I was cleaning the cookies for Firefox today and noticed that a lot of them use the variable names '__utma' and '__utmz'. Several seemed to have been sent from know ad-tracking sites, but then I saw that a lot are from legitimate sites like the Asylum. |

A better explanation would be that it is used by http://www.google.com/analytics/ to track the sites users. This data is sent to google which then has reports that the site user can access about user's browsing habits. |
