It sounds to me like you may now "need" an SLR type of DC, for more control and interchangable lenses. It helps if you can say what it is you want out of a camera, full auto, manual, interchangable lenses and so on and on. If you have not done so already go to the buying guide on that page and do a "feature search". I did a quick one at the upper price you mentioned and I left all the other choices at "Don't Mind" and the search came back with seven cameras that you could do a side by side feature check with.
