I was wondering how many English words match hex colors and what colors they would make. Anyway, here's what I came up with:

Any other words I missed, or perhaps words in other languages, such as German?

I can't think of any German ones and the dictionary doesn't list any... but the English one has these other two:

Sorry, poi, leetspeak doesn't count. If it was, there probably would be tons of words we could use.

But just in case you're wondering what color it is:

Yep, it seems pastel is the predominant shade of English Hexaguistics... um... Hexioms? Hexalect?

Well, to be fair, words can only contain the upper 6 of the hex sequence. So of course they're gonna contain a lot of lighter shades.

English is obviously a pastel language. =)

as far as I know, the higher range which is designated by letters will still be the same range of color no matter what language you make words of them in

so... I guess we should form "compound" words and substract them...

What would be more interesting, I think, would be to spread the letters out evenly over the spectrum. That is, you've got 256 values for red, green, and blue, right? Well, there are 26 letters in the English alphabet. That's almost ten per letter--if we multiply the position of the letter in the alphabet by ten (and make "z" 255) then every three letters will form a color:

CAT = 1E0AC8 (a very lovely blue)
DOG = 289646 (looks like the green background on which film ratings are shown)
SIT = BE5AC8 (fabulous!)

Longer words or sentences would simply be a series of colors (spaces and leftover values are 00):

Welcome to the Asylum = E63278, 1E9682, 3200C8, 9600C8, 503200, 0ABEFA, 78D282

Yeah, it's not nearly as nifty as having letters spell out words, but it' a step up for those not secure enough in their masculinity to deal with pastels.

Suho1004: I can see through your evil plan to hinder people's masculinity. The "Welcome to the Asylum" starts with a very masculine pink

Anyway, following your 10 shades per position in the alphabet, I wonder what the two 3 letters color keyword ( from SVG ) look like:

red: b43228 ( a dark-brownish red )
tan: c80a8c ( a medium magenta )

Indeed it is a masculine pink! Never have I seen a pink that makes me want to suddenly crush beer cans on my forehead like this one!

Or something to that effect...

Another idea is to use base conversion from base 36 (0-9,A-Z) to base 16 (0-9,A-F).

That leaves you with numbers rangingas high as 9ZLDR, or it's nearest alpha equivilant, ZLDR, which is a maximum colour range in hex of 1956FF. The English language, considered as base 36, contains very low levels of red. Mind you, it's a damn long list of words.

abbe, Adam, afar, Aida, aide, ajar, alai, Alan, alan, alba, babe, Bach, back, bade, bead, beak, beam, bean, bear, beck, bibb, bide, blab, CACM, cede, had, Chao, chap, char, clad, clam, clan, clap, Dada, Dade, dead, eaf, deal, dean, dear, deck, dial, dice, dick, Dido, each, Egan, elan, Elba, face, fade, fear, fide, flag, flak, flam, flap, gear, gibe, glad, Haag, hack, head, heal, heap, hear, Hebe, heck, hick, hide, jack, JACM, jade, jean, jibe, khan, kick, Klan, lace, lack, lead, leaf, leak, lean, leap, Lear, liar, lice, lick, mace, Mach, mack, made, mead, meal, mean, mica, mice, NCAA, NCAR, Neal, neap, near, neck, nice, nick, Olaf, pace, pack, peak, peal, pear, peck, pica, pick, plan, race, rack, read, real, ream, reap, rear, reck, Rica, rice, rich, rick, Rico, ride, sack, scab, scam, scan, scar, seal, seam, Sean, sear, shad, shag, shah, sham, sial, SIAM, Sian, sick, side, slab, slag, slam, slap, tack, teal, team, tear, tech, Thai, than, tick, tide, Ulan, vade, veal, Veda, vial, vice, Vida, vide, wack, Waco, wade, wadi, weak, weal, wean, wear, Webb, WECo, wham, wick, wide, yeah, year, zeal

Take your pick. That's just from the base Linux dict/words.

I listed them vertically for two reasons:

1. That's how they came out on my terminal; and
2. I'm too bone lazy to convert it to an inline list.
