I found two different sources ([url=http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060609191216AABMPQG]1[/url]) and ([url=http://www.slashfood.com/2007/01/04/multi-yolk-eggs/]2[/url]) that say that the odds of finding a double yolk egg (by chance) are about 1 in 1000. However, these odds tend to be skewed when you buy eggs in the store because the eggs have probably been candled to give you only single yolk eggs or to give you mainly double yolk eggs. I also ran across an article by someone who had gotten twelve double yolk eggs in a dozen. This was probably done deliberately by the people packaging the eggs. If you bought your eggs from a local farmer who is not classifying the eggs when they are packaged the chances of picking four eggs at random from a carton and each of them having double yolk would be 1 in 1,000,000,000,000. Also double yolk eggs are more common with duck and goose eggs than with chicken eggs. . -- not necessarily stoned... just beautiful.
