![]() I just recently moved my entire clientèle to a new server. In that process I warned clients to backup their important mail ect. To my surprise only 1 person actually failed to do so and is in need of mail on my old server. I had, unfortunately, closed my account with said server just a few days before I was informed. I contacted my old server people and asked if they could jump on my old server and pull mail from a specific account. They said that was an impossible feat unless I re-opened my account with them paying $150 to set up the dedicated server again. Does this make sense to anyone? I thought it was pretty strange; I'm no IT guy but jumping into an old mail server and grabbing an email doesn't seem like a hard thing to do. Am I wrong? |

![]() Well, $150 sounds about right, actually. Honestly, it's a courtesy thing. They shouldn't really charge you for it if they're going to be nice about it. But I know where I work, for off-the-contract or session work we charge about $150 an hour |

![]() yeah, if you substract all the overhead, the guy actually doing the work won't receive much of those 150 usd - though as a courtesy, they'd might just charge you half an hour of work, or something similary, instead of trying to force you to reopen your account... |

![]() Well, I do feel better; but I still think it's pretty lame. |

![]() Not unexpected at all, and really, $150 is peanuts in regard to such things. |

![]() Yes, very true. I actually thought of that as well... I did, however, have to leave them because of performance and support... I guess I shouldn't be surprised at all. I just feel like I invested enough for one lousy email (but again, I really don't know what that involves). One of my very first servers was with Hostbaby and they were just fantastic with "helping out" etc. I had to leave them to be able to host my clients; I guess I always compare hosting service to them. Apples to oranges I suppose. |
