I am trying to install a Local Web Server to test my php scripts, I found a tutorial online, but their link to install Apache opens up a page with a bunch of links and I am not sure what to download, I tried downloading :

Win32 Source: httpd-2.2.4-win32-src.zip [PGP] [MD5]

but it doesn't content the installer, I am really lost and getting frustrated, please help me, I am new to all this

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey nalalana, welcome to the funny farm

Try googling for EasyPHP or XAMPP - both are prepackaged apache / mysql / php combos which are easily installed and are handy for Windows dev work.

I already installed it, Call me an idiot but I don't know what's next. I tried to open my php files and nothing, I pasted them in all the folders in the easyPhp directory and nothing, I am really lost, could it be that I am skipping a step??

Ah, you should be accessing the .php files through http://localhost/yourfilesname.php. I suppose that's the bit you were missing?

Is localhost a folder?, if so where is it; if it needs to be replaced by a foldername, then which one

I now get this error msg:

Site error: the file C:\Program Files\EasyPHP 2.0b1\www\index.php requires the ionCube PHP Loader ioncube_loader_win_5.2.dll to be installed by the site administrator.

You'll have to enter "localhost" as the address in your web browser.

Is that what you've been doing?

You should then see some kind of default easyphp page.

Once you're there, you might try the php examples from their documentation for starters and see what works and what doesn't -
