Oldie but goodie.

I don't know about you, but I enjoy expounding the virtues of Satanism whenever I get bible-wielding Jehova's Winesses knocking at my door. I've even refused to allow them to leave...

White Hawk: I so wish I welcomed Jehova witnesses last time they rang at my door bell. I guess I was too tired or busy to have a good laugh.

I got a pretty good chuckle out of that bit.

That's pretty funny... something about the word "bashing" that makes me laugh. I would have had a chat with 'em... we're not all cranky like the vid shows; yes I am a Mormon (or Latter Day Saint).

Ooooo, cool. In my former time here we would have been having some very cool discussions, redroy. How familiar are you with the tenets of your faith?

Despite the fact that I found that rather amusing, I could not bring myself to chuckle or produce other audible expressions of mirth.

Fortunately, we don't get too many door-to-door faith salespeople in Korea, especially not now that we live out in the middle of nowhere. When we lived in Seoul we did get the occasional cultist (I'm referring to neither Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses, but strange little Christianity-based cults that seem to be of Korean origin--no, not Moonies either) come around and try to convert us. It is fairly common practice for Christians in Korea to put stickers on their doors displaying the name of the church they attend (we had one on our door). I'm not sure why this is done, but it certainly doesn't deter the faith salespeople. In fact, it seems to encourage the Christianity-based cultists. I talked to one from this weird cult church down the street who was actually quite polite. He was surprised when I could actually answer his questions about the Bible, and he never came back. On the other end of the spectrum, I had a lady who used to come by every now and then and pound on the door (or bash on the door, if you will). I would pretend I wasn't home (after a while you learn to recognize the sounds of their footsteps on the stairs) and she would pound on the door, saying things like, "I know you're in there!" I would ignore her until I get sufficiently annoyed and then I would tell her (through the door) that I was going to call the police if she didn't leave. I never actually called the police (and, honestly, I wouldn't expect them to be much help), but it seemed to do the trick.

There were times when I considered hooking a car battery up to the door (the door was metal), but I never got that annoyed.

I like to invite them in.

I serve them coffee in the living room.

I let them get all settled in, relaxed, and confident that they are going to be pitching and presenting their propaganda.

Then I tear their precious little service apart, piece by loving piece.

Normally, the older one (there always seems to be an older one) soon recoqnizes that the situation is not only hopeless, but is beginning to escalate - because the younger one is getting more and more upset, and is starting to shout, spat out "you'll burn in hell" and other nice little predictions of my fate.

They normally leave abruptly, strangely enough.

Sadly, they never come again for more fun at my house, for some strange reason.

As we moved, my wife has forbidden me of inviting them in anymore

She says I have too much fun when I do.

I've never actually had Mormon missionaries knock at my door. In our area, Jehovah's Witnesses are much more active. The last time they came knocking we had a very cordial exchange with me basically letting them know that I would be trying my best to convert them I guess they respected that but decided not to waste their time on me with another visit.

WS, I've never really felt like I left... completely. I'm hoping that my life is moving back to a state where I'll be able to be here more consistently. It's great to see familiar faces still around

redroy, I was wondering what you thought about the main sticking point between Mormonism and Christianity namely the divinity of Christ. I don't know if you're interested in talking about that or not. I've never really had a good conversation with a Mormon on that topic. This has been mainly due to the fact that I've known very few Mormons, and the ones I have known knew very little about the specifics of their church's teachings.

Hey Bugs,

I'm not sure how much you do know about Mormons but we are in fact "Christians"... it is a common misconception that we are not. We do believe Jesus Christ to be a member of the God Head and thus having complete divinity.
