To begin with, this is Photoshop 7.0 installed with CrossoverOffice Pro 5.0.3... CrossoverOffice Pro 6 is out, but I've yet to try it. I hear it's even more stable. The install is famously easy- run CrossoverOffice "Install Windows Software". Select "Photoshop 7.0" and Next. It asks you to use the cdrom or, if you have Photoshop backed up in a zip file *shifty eyes*, the path to the 'setup.exe'. The rest of the install runs just like on Windows and at the end it tells you to "Click this button if the installation has ended". It returned an error for me about the installation not working, but I just OK-d it and everything's fine. I run it from "Applications> Windows Applications> Programs> Adobe Photoshop" (though, I should really just put it on the panel instead).

Here you can catch a screenshot as I made this:

Did you notice the little white box in the upper-left corner? Photoshop is a little slow on the refresh sometimes, but nothing you'd really notice; only when 'shading'* a large Layers tab or something. It generally looks beautiful, a little better than on Windows, actually- all artifacts you see on the images are strictly from my lack of imG compression skillz.

Once it gave me some error but I just restarted it and it never came up again. *Shrug*

It gets annoying that I can't "Alt-drag" on the couple of tools that use it. On Ubuntu, holding down Alt moves the entire window, so it just moves Photoshop around rather than, say, "Substracting from the Marquee Tool". I didn't even realize how much I used the damn Alt key until I installed Photoshop here.

Having Photoshop on Ubuntu lets me take advantage of the Linux "Right Click on Titlebar> Stay on Top" funtion that is so *damn* addictive. I don't really get how I ever lived without it.

I'm playing around with an 800x800px block with all kinda filters and layer effects and it's running fine. But maybe the way you guys use PS stresses it more than I do; ya'll are the masters..

Whether this'll run your wacom tablet is up in the air... it might, but I'd know nothing about it..

* Shading = when you double-click on a tab and the window minimizes in such a way that only the titlebar is visible.

Just FYI, PS7.0 will install using Wine as well. Therefore no need to pay for Crossover Office. It has an issue with fonts at first but just install windows fonts and all is good. Never had an issue with it.

I've never noticed a big difference in speed on Ubuntu for me, as far as "how well". Never crashed or gave any errors except for the windows font thing that I fixed.

Later,
