Personally, I'd classify demonstrators as 'objective-oriented individuals' - ie. they want to reach a long term goal, while a goal is something that's supposed to be achieved in the next few minutes... but I disgress, and I agree with your opinion - ridiculous way to say 'when attacked by guy swinging chain, use distance weapon'....
