My computer officially died this morning. I knew it was coming, but I didn't get everything archived like I wanted to. Hopefully I'll be able to get the HDs ripped once I get my own machine running again. Could be a long wait and I'm not sure if my Woman's machine will make due until that time.

I had quite a bit of resources and content sitting on my drives. Collecting things for another rampage. Man, and quite a bit of 3d content that I had been working on. I am angry at myself for not archiving as fast as I should have, yet I knew it was coming and no one to blame but myself. Only a little bit angry with myself.

And my woman's machine is the suck. There is no way it can handle some of the stuff that I was pushing my computer to do. She uses it for simple stuff, so what she has is enough for her. But the thing that really sucks is her damn keyboard. Short cord and right up under the desk with maybe 2" for fingering. The short cord makes it want to stay under the desk. Talk about reaching for the backspace key. It's like spelunking with a pinky and that's not as fun as it may sound.

To make fingering worse, I cut the pad of my index on my primary pretty good last night. I think my woman's J key will get a bit bloody while I ninja her hardware.

But my one bud is a hardware guru and he's pretty sure he can set me up with a damn good bare-bones. He can pack a hella lot of punch for the $. Even a cheap bare-bones will be an upgrade compared to what I had.

Until that happens, I suppose I'll have more time for dishes, laundry, and the kids. Man, I hate raising my kids properly and teaching them cool things.

The grass is green; the sun is warm.
Photoshop will be my misteress again.

J key? Ninja her hardware? I am not familiar with these euphemisms. Is that what they're calling it these days?

(Sorry, it was bad, I know... couldn't help it.)

Ooh - I hate it when that happens. It always waits until just before you get around to making full backups, eh?

I swear by a little gadget I've made much use of; a USB-to-IDE/SATA adapter. Makes light work of extracting data from loose hard drives...

...and dammit - use a longer-cabled keyboard, you ninny! *sigh* :P

I don't think you were around the last time my computer died, Suho. When it did, I went into ninja mode. I was molesting other peoples computers left and right without leaving a trace. Considering what I did at the time, it was a very dangerous proposition.

Can't swap keyboards because mine is too big for her tray. But if I totally rearrange her desk, which is so not ninja, I should be able to figure something out until I can get my hands on an extension. Considering the mess her desk is in, I don't think she'll mind.

Did some shopping for external harddrive things. If I can't get one soon, this is gonna seriously suck because her machine only has 1 IDE channel do-hickey. If it comes down to it, I'll wax her HD, dump my junk, and burn from there. Either way, the first order of business is swapping her DVD W with my DVD R/W. My DVD R/W is so Cadillac.

I'm off to start on her desk and exploring her HD some more. I already assassinated 1G worth of junk. And this keyboard situation has got to be fixed right now.

Wish me luck.

OMG
I just found *several* RealPlayer installers sitting in a download folder. We are so gonna have to have a talk when she gets home.

I got one of these just for cases like this. It has saved me at work and at home MANY times. Also saved some of my friends.

Good luck to you

I got a lot taken care of, but still not quite at the burning/archiving state.

My woman's desk is proving difficult because her case has a rather unique modification.

For a bit, I got side tracked with browsing some of my really old archives. Turns out I have Make It! weeks 1-6 archived. Also found some really old sigs that I had forgotten all about. Some of my old sigs are just plain funny.

Kind of good news: I got my hands on an old Win98 machine. It runs, but I don't know if it can handle the hardware that I'll have to toss into it. Do you think I will run into a file system or something problem?

I should know in a few days when I get some time to serious mess things up.

Man, I'm seriously thinking I should toss up the early Make It! archives.

Oh my NOOB.

Set up the old Win98 machine in the kitchen. My mouse, keyboard, and monitor. Guess what? It didn't boot.

My woman says, "Maybe it's the monitor. Want me to go get mine?"

She gets her monitor, plugs it into the Win98 machine and it boots.

I am making this post from my machine with her monitor.

Ph3Ar mah Noo|3ne55

Disaster averted.
I got an old CRT that I can use for the time being.
Then I gotta burn like mad.

Now that I have access to my accounts and what-not, I'll see about uploading the Make It! archives that I have. That is, unless anybody objects.

Don't forget to use Ubuntu Feisty!

It's OzoneAsylum Recommended!
Ozone Asylum- Which Linux today?

What exactly died? The HD, the motherboard? What data did you lose?

Yoiu made me go spelunking on Tigerdirect and I found my monitor and my HD:

Good to hear you're up and running again WarJ albeit on a hacked system. My computer just refused to boot a few days ago, got to the windows screen with the little animated blue bar and nothing, heh, kept going like that for the best part of an hour. Tried everything and ended up just doing a complete re-install, a pain, but effective.
Have you or anyone else used data recovery software like Drive Image or Norton Ghost? I know these are not completely foolproof but can sometimes save a lot of time (I've been told).
It's always fun to look over past activities like old sigs or the "Make It" comps'.
Great monitor you have there Petskull.
