Hello,

I've done some changes to SmartTab that I expect to make it Vista compatible,
alas I don't have a vista system to test,
but the first feedback has been positive...

So here it is - after more than a year,
a new beta of SmartTab!

You can download it from http://smarttab.org/files/SmartTab20071021.exe

and there's a number of new&improved things in it:

  • compability with Vista

  • optional left-hand support using -left=backspace, -left=insert or -left=delete, depending on your key preference

  • new 'should this window be in the alt-tab list' algorithm

  • support for sorted display using -sort=alphabetically or -sort=process, alt-tab still cycles in the usual order, the arrow keys go by the order displayed

  • support for home/end and page-up/down

  • sticky window support (-sticky=true), the windows no longer disappears when you release the alt key.

Again thanks to all of you who have helped with feedback and color schemes!

I'd love to hear feedback on the new version, if it does what it's supposed to, I'll release it as SmartTab 6 .

For those that don't know SmartTab yet, it's a replacement for the default windows alt-tab window that makes it much more
usable, just check out the description and screenshots at www.smarttab.org

So long,

and this is right after i just downloaded the old version...

well, it's still working as well as ever (on xp), but there's a few background processes on there that don't really need to be, although that maybe deliberate, and i appear to have a blank on there as well, which when selected does nothing.

i seem to remember with the old version that alt+tab+win would bring up the normal alt-tab selector, but doesn't look like that's the case any more. and the download page on smarttab.org still says that the current version is from the 6th of march last year.

good stuff though.

edit: page up/page down work the wrong way around.

Thanks for giving it a try - it's beta, that's why the download page still has the old one.

Especially, I wanted to get feedback on the new 'window finding' algorithm - seems it has some issues,
but I'll get them worked out eventually, once my move's settled down a bit .

I'm afraid with the vista compatible keyboard hooking, win-alt-tab is out of the question with this version...
though I might have another look.

Page up/down jumps 'up/down' 5 items. If you have less than five windows, it will look reversed. I need
to think about this

Thanks again,
So long,

Tested on Vista, and works fine... but I think I like the new Vista Alt+Tab function. I will certainly be installing your cool utility on XP. Great stuff, thank you!

thank you TP!

good thing: it fixes the adobe CS3 problem

bad thing: it shows me windows that dont even exist (maybe they are from applications residing in the system tray area)

thanks anyways! great job!

Jive:
you create a shortcut, and edit to have -left=backspace (or one of the other's above) at the end of
the command line for the application.

so long,
