I need a new book to read. Feeling something Sci-Fi. Not fantasy, but Sci-Fi. Anyone read anything lately that was really good? |

I've been reading nothing but reference and poetry books for the past couple of years C:\ so I'll be interested to see what other people suggest too. |

All the recent sci-fi I have read has been Robert Heilein. If you like hard sci-fi and haven't read him (unlikely that both conditions will be true, but whatever), I would recommend giving his stuff a whirl. I've been mostly going through his short fiction, and have yet to tackle his full-length novels (Starship Troopers, Stranger in a Strange Land, etc.). |

Well I prefer Military Scifi, David Drake's, "Redliners" is my favorite. But any of the Hammer's Slammers, novels will do in a pinch. I also really like John Ringo, I'm in the middle of his Posleen series, which begins with "A Hymn Before Battle." |

I just finished reading The Fading Sun Trilogy by C. J. Cherryh which I thought was great. Also would recommend Robert Heilein's books as well. |

Wow. I just noticed that I misspelled "Heinlein." Dropped the first "n" there. |

Cool. Thanks for the suggestions. Some of the authors I've never heard of. Gonna check out some of Robert Heinlein's stuff. Looks pretty interesting. Might get Stranger in a Strange Land. Looks pretty good. |

Might not be what you're asking for- but The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an outstanding read in the realm of fiction. This first 3 books are just *fun* to read. |

If you're still looking, A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge is great "hard" sci-fi. |
