I really enjoyed reading the three books in "His Mark Materials" a couple of years back. The authors device of a daemon I thought quite brilliant. The question of it "selling atheism to kids" is preposterous, rather, look at the sheer weight of consumerism blighting society never mind Christmas. I do think that an authors views can and do permeate the topics that they are writing about, and these are the views of Mr Pullman, view that I am in complete concordance with.
