:) 1) From what I've been reading, no...it isn't selling atheism. It does seem to be selling the idea of not blindly accepting authority... The books are seemingly more strongly stated than the movie though. 2) If it were, or if it is....so what?? How many movies, books, tv shows, magazines, politicians, teachers, singers, and preachers do we have selling religion to kids? If you are a religious person, and are intent on imparting your religious beliefs on your children...do you not have faith that you have done so in such a way that seeing an adventure movie that may or may not hint at corruption in religion will not be earth shattering to those beliefs? I would be genuinely interested in hearing from someone who has such concerns...
