---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been doing a lot of searchin' on the topics of self esteem, and how it impacts interpersonal relationships. Based on this, through recent years, I have improved my social skills, aka soft skills, to a point where I can create attraction and interest easilly in my interactions with people. Hence the fact I now feel comfortable about making new decisions about my professional and personal life - BUT... I tend to have difficulties abiding to social rules : this is good in my road to self improvement, because it means making "experiments" and learning from those. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Problem ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yet I tend to cause and obtain negative reactions about my maturity or, more accurately, my reliability in some contexts : example : I resigned from a day to the next from my former employer, based on accumulation of manipulation attempts from the management and the fact the market is offering me new perspectives, and this got me a "you're such a whimmey kid" kind of feedback - expectable. But not based on true facts - which is expectable as well. As a soon to be independent consultant, self improvement is a key factor to my communication with customers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Possible causes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - a lack in the areas of self discipline and assertiveness : seemingly accepting too much for a while and the blowing up, and seemingly being unable to stick strictly to social rules. Seemingly because I am aware of both. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How would you go about communicating reliability and trust to your relatives/employer/etc? IN GENERAL, not in my specific cases. To put it some other way : what makes a person reliable to you? What signs would you be looking for?
