i wanted to open a similar thread a while ago. i was curious about how many of you guys actually play WoW, and whats up with all the other MMORPGs out there. It's like World of Warcraft vs. the rest of the world...

i remember michael still playing (btw, its good to see you still hanging around in here ), but i'm not sure about any other inmates.
i've quit WoW more than a year ago simply because this game just rewarded your invested amount of time, not your skill. (well ok, your skill plays a role, but a WAY too small one)
this is why i've switched to Guild Wars, which is has no monthly fee and focuses mostly on skill and PvP. i can achieve a lot just by playing an hour a day, and dont need to grind dungeons for weeks in order to get some imba items to actually have a chance in PvP. i dont know how much Blizzard has changed WoW during the past months- i'm sure they have improved and fixed a lot of issues, but i think its still mostly time rewarding...

so, to come back to the topic: i dont play anymore. it's a cool game, but dangerously addicting

I'll agree... It is time rewarding but that's what I love about our guild. We're a family and friend oriented guild. We do what we can as far as raids, instances, PVP, etc. but we're in it to spend time with friends. There is a lot of give and take with the people we have and we select people to join us based on their personality not so much what they'll do for us.

I've seen arguements on both sides of WoW/MMORPGs that they are serious time sinks that don't reward skill to social training environements where kids don't know they are being trained... I'd guess its a matter of both, especially in the case of our Guild.

Honestly PVP is where Blizzard has everything all screwed up... at least in their Battlegrounds... dunno about PVP servers. You can't join a BG in our battle group with a fleeting chance of success most days. Our Battlegroup is Alliance heavy so it's premades all day every day.

As far as other MMORPGs the onlyother one I had interest in was FFXI... and only cause I'm an FF fan. I didn't know anyone who played and I did know some who played WoW so i went thataway. EQ held no allure for me. I beta tested EQ2 and that was far more than enough... talk about your time sink.

NWN holds some significant interest for me in particular the PWs... I'm a Dungeon/Game Master at heart so... the ability to build my own world/advetures/etc... appeals to me.

Yep, long time player... still playing.
Mas makes a valid point, but I enjoy myself with the things I do in-game, so I'll continue to stick with it for the time being. Not sure if I'll be kicking around in the next expansion, but we'll see.
I've done the "hardcore" raid thing to Illidan... and I did the "Guild Master" thing for a few years. These days I just sit back and take things as they come a bit more.

I looked up your toon on Armory, GD. Unfortunately you were logged out in your less than spectacular dps gear.
