Just a thought : I am starting to think that your technique + triangle slants would be a great basis for... (geez it's just unbelievable) (gouraud shading can be calculated quite easilly, gradients can be altered and distorted in many ways using js) I am starting to think your technique + triangle slants + some fiddling with gradients and gouraud could lead to pure js gouraud shaded 3d. And I probably am not the only one considering this atm. ;)
