Topic awaiting preservation: AJAX file upload

hello, its been ages since i did something web related. but now i am at it again, and since ajax is so hip and cool now (now?) i would like to do a file upload service with it.

so there is a page where the user can browse a file and hit an upload button. then, the form hides and an upload-bar thingy shows up. when the upload is finished, a the upload-bar is hidden and "Hooray" is yelled.

how can i do that? any pointers to tutorials?

Regular JS+XHTML+CSS can't do upload bar yet. You'll need something like Flash or Java for that

For the rest, it's basic DHTML manipulations to show/hide/create elements.

Have a look on Ajaxian.com , there must be some articles about file upload with upload bar, there might even be a plugin for YUI for that.
