Yes, there is a big difference between a Hub and a Router (as WH as eloquently described). My use of the word "hub" here was meant generically - that is, to describe a cable connected Router with the WLAN turned off (Wireless Local Area Network). I normally turn off the WLAN function of my WLAN Routers (and yes, there are Routers that do not incorporate the WLAN function into them, and they are full-functioning Routers as well). As I do not have any Wireless connecting devices, it is a mostly unneeded function. Occasionally it gets turned on for my daughter's Nintendo DS - she likes to connect online with Animal Crossing. I then normally make sure the MAC filter is active (to keep out unwanted "visitors" from using my WLAN).
