Hyperbole: Most private broadband connections use a static IP nowaday, though the IP reassignment problems persist on most dialup or mobile internet conenctions. That's a different issue than that about web hosting on a shared versus a dedicated IP, though. SleepingWolf: Dedicated IP for hosting means that your server is the only one on that IP number. Shared obviously means that there is more than one domain hosted on the same IP. There's a number of things this affects: if you enter the IP of a dedicated hosting domain in the browser, it will work just as well as if you had entered the domain name. In a shared hosting solution, the IP is not enough to tell which server you're trying to reach of those that share that IP. If you want to be able to accept credit card payments, if you want get an SSL Certificate, or if you want to provide anonymous FTP access, a dedicated IP is needed. There is also the benefit that since you're on a dedicated IP, you can't be affected by the collateral damage from some other domain on the IP doing something that gets your IP banned. -- var Liorean = { abode: "[sigrotate]http://liorean.web-graphics.com/|http://codingforums.com/|http://web-graphics.com/[/sigrotate]", profile: "http://codingforums.com/member.php?u=5798"};
