Topic awaiting preservation: Confirmation e-mail pulling data from a file? (Page 1 of 1)

Does anyone have any experience with sending an order confirmation e-mail automatically and including a password from a file that is stored on your server? I know there are computer programs that do this, but was curious if there is anyway to accomplish the same goal without having to keep a local machine running all the time.

Doesn't your server send out your confirmation e-mails? What's
the local machine doing in there? Is it the same password each time?

The local machine uses a program to insert the passwords in the e-mail then sends them to the customer. I was just curious if there is anyway to import say a .csv into a MySQL DB and have the auto responders I can setup with my host pull the data from that DB and insert into the e-mail. Very similar to how you can use snippets like %emailaddress% to insert the users e-mail address into the auto responder's e-mail.

Does this clear it up at all?

I, for one, am very confused still.
Some questions

1) what prompts the program on the 'local machine' to insert a password into an email?
2) where does this password come from?
3) what prompts the generation of this password?
4) what is the ultimate goal of this process? what is the customer gaining access to and why?
5) how does the customer do whatever it is they need to do to have a password generated?

etc etc etc.

The short answer is "yes. there is a way".
