In which way does inserting some comments into the document make the document non-conforming? This is perfectly fine HTML5:
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <!--[if IE]> <p>Obviously if this wasn't a comment this document would be non-conformant, but since this is a comment it of course remains conformant.</p> <![endif]--> <title></title> </head> <body> <p></p> </body> </html>
You can do the same thing to earlier HTML versions, of course. How ie treats that comment does not in any way change whether the document is conformant. Ie thinks it sees element content where only a comment body can be found. That does not change the fact that in the document it's only a comment and not element content. -- var Liorean = { abode: "[sigrotate]http://liorean.web-graphics.com/|http://codingforums.com/|http://web-graphics.com/[/sigrotate]", profile: "http://codingforums.com/member.php?u=5798"}; [small](Edited by liorean on 10-20-2008 16:25)[/small]
