Whe I said "resolving the dependencies on your own", I was thinking about upgrading indivdual packages and downoading each package (and it's dependancies). I then had the thought that you could download all the source files to a local machine, make your own repository and use a package manager to upgrade everything. I should probably have made that second thought another paragraph to indicate it was a separate train of thought. As far as I know people are still referring to Fedora Core 8, 9, 10... as FC#. I've recently seen references to FC10. I don't think 'extras' and 'core' have anything to do with the name Fedora Core. I believe they refer to levels of stablility in the packages they contain. Actually stability isn't the right word. I believe a 'core' repository contains only those packages necessary to successfully run Fedora Core on a machine and an 'extra' repository will contain extra packages such as lirc, mythtv, etc. . -- not necessarily stoned... just beautiful.
