It tells the browser to display various predefined elements. That has not changed. What has changed (and as reisio said, it changed a LOng time ago), is that style, layout, and presentation information has been shifted to CSS and should not be part of your mark up. I would certainly not say that HTML is deprecated - it is still how the structure and content of web pages are defined. Loading...
