Topic: Aren't vector files supposed to be small? (Page 1 of 1)

(since I couldn't quite find a separate illustrator forum I thought it best to put it here)

I made this:



It's got about 40 nodes.

Then why the hell is the resulting .ai file nearly half a megabyte? And why does it get even bigger when I turn off PDF compatibility?

The mind boggles.

Because AI is a proprietary binary format meant to maximize on on Illustrator capabilities?

Use SVG.

That's pretty! Sad how the fundamentals of "pleasing to the eye' are still black magic to me after all these years.

Now that I've seen the design, I could probably make super fast. Before having seen it, I could work on it for 6 months and not even get close to anything so simple and attractive. I feel like clapping, as if I'd just witnessed a magic trick.
