UBB Help
My company uses almost nothing else but HP kit. I've become very familiar with their desktops, laptops, and printers, and have picked up a lot of tricks over the years. For instance, despite the hardware differences, I've got an XP image that works across several different laptops/desktops by dint of having all the required drivers in the image, and having been tweaked on each machine before updating the image. The one thing that caused the most problems for me was getting different Intel chipsets and graphics drivers to co-exist, but every now and then, newer audio hardware gives me a headache, too. I'm glad you got yourself sorted. Personally, I just start with a vanilla XP installation and download all the required driver packages for each model from HP's download section, then unpack them and integrate. I've never had a use for their support/forums, nor their restore media. The first thing to go when I'm preparing a new machine is the factory installation and the restore partition. Having had some experience with a lot of different brands, I've come to view HP and their hardware positively, but I know that's not the case for everybody. I can boast, at least, that it takes me about three-hundred seconds to swap out a broken panel on most HP laptops. I have not found a lot of other brands quite so easy...
