Way more money than I should spend but as my wife said: "You're dead a long time." Other factors include.... how about a complete 'puter meltdown and purge. I've been cobbling together outdated technology for the last 10 years and it all came to a screeching halt 4 or so months ago when the last box more or less went up in smoke.... you know that wonderful acrid aroma of something electrical making one last gasp....and pooof. No ones and zero's to make the world right. That was it. A friend lent me this laptop and as soon it was up and running the purge began in ernest. Borrowed another friends van, got it as close to the back of the house as possible and out the door went nearly all things computer. Monitor after monitor - towers towers and more towers and printers and cables...box upon box of CD burners. Kept some of the Sipps and Simms and a fairly new printer. During the purge I ran across the receipt for the first computer I purchased.I'd been using 286's at work before that and go back to the even more arcane. This was considered a screamer! DTK 386/25 mhz (Novell Certified) 4Mb RAM SIPPS 5.25" floppy drive 3.5" floppy drive 52Mb IDE Hard Drive Plus IDE hard drive controller 1 serial 1 parallet, 1 game port 16 bit Super VGA Video Adapter AOC Multisync High Resolution VGA enhanced keyboard Logitech Scanman 256 Internal 2400 baud modem MS Windows 3.0 Publish-it! DOS 4.01 Desktop case HP Deskjet Printer (includes printer cable) $3,339.00 $ 780.00 (printer) _________ $4,119.00 $ 247.14 (tax) $ 288.33 (another tax) _________ $4,654.47 I still had the scanman. The card for the thing is just a bit wider than this Presario.=) Anyway that was the first and only pre built machine. Since then it's been beg borrow buy odds and sods build up tear down add frustration and repeat. No more. Done. And the only way ensure no more building is to get rid of everything that encourages building and replace everything with something as uniniviting as an iMac. Swapping out ram is as far as I am prepared to wrench. I very nearly purchased the 24" iMac but wasn't comfortable with the 'heat' issues and this new generation seems to have that under control... so what's left? I just want to play with the damn thing. That simple. Like the look of it. Like the bells and whistles. Don't like the price but.... as she who must be obeyed says.
