Topic awaiting preservation: User End formatting.

Hi i am creating a website for someone who will through php and and mysql will be editing the sites contents. The issue is they no nothing about html. I am wondering how i would put together a pannel like the one on the left side (Insert UBB Code) that would allow the user to select the text and have them be bold or images with out any knowledge of the html syntax.
