I'd like to find a way to use a scanner (fujitsu fi series) from a web page.

the end goal is basically as follows - the user clicks a button on the page, the scanner starts the automatic document feeder to load all pages into a temp folder, the images show up for approval and then are uploaded to the server.

I really have no idea what would be the best languages to use for interfacing with the scanner. I'm using php and mysql for the site and was thinking of using an ftp server for the images with a table in the database to manage them.
