Greetings respected Asylumites
I have found over the past few years with the advancement of mobile phone technology and their cameras that I am now using my phone camera more than I am using my digital DSLR camera. The quality is still nowhere near as good as the DSLR's but it's still quite decent and the camera nearly always close to hand.
There is also a plethora of free apps out there, some, as you no doubt have found, much better than others. In this instance I have used Snapseed to process my photos. It used to be a stand-alone web based software and then google bought it. It is still out there on the G+ platform of apps but I always have difficulty finding it. The web based version also does not have as many functions as the phone based.

So I'm wondering what, if any, adventures you have taking photographs with your phone? What phone and what software or app you use the most or find the most pleasing to use? I find the S7 camera ok for non-zoom photographs. The zoom goes from x0 to x8 in telephoto as well as macro. I find that anything above x3 in telephoto introduces too much JPEG type artifacts, lack of resoloution and blurring.
However it is in Macro mode that, for me, this phone camera shines. Again, I don't wack it up to x8 very often. Apart from the quality of image captured, it is very susceptible to camera shake. The oak leaf above was taken at about x2.4 macro.

Nice work Tao! It's amazing how far these tiny integrated cameras and the processing algorithms have come. I think I like the brownish leaf the best. I have an HTC One M7 ... it's a bit old now and there's not much to tell except for its fenomenal low light performance. Decent shots in the dark and without flash are no problem at all then I'm out and about.

I only do bog standard boring snapshots of the kiddo.

My wife though uses "photo collada" to make nice collages with added cliparts...

My wife uses an iPhone5. The results are very acceptable & she does some editing/enhancing in snapseed. Using the HDR setting makes a world of difference, a good difference imo, not at all garish over-the-top in-your-face as I felt was the case when HDR first appeared.

I have an iPhone4 but VERY seldom take pix with it. Hardly ever use the phone period. I mostly use an entry level Lumix G something Micro/4 thirds (mirrorless) with a couple of lenses.

I'll tell what I am impressed with tho' and if you've not yet tried...give serious consideration to google photo's. Use the setting that allows unlimited uploads. Makes for a great backup. Stitch pano's without asking. Same with animations from a series of photo's. it's biggest advantage tho' imo is the 'sorting' function. I found pics that I knew were on my various HD's SOMEWHERE. Took 3 days to upload everything but worth it ten times over. Here's 1 of the Q&D animatons google put together. https://goo.gl/photos/TSybcQEP6PjHAPyy5

The phrase I'm hearing more and more regarding digital pics is "Computational Photography". Yes you still need 'an eye' but auto-focus io settings etc are now so fast & good you can ALMOST forget about them.

And just in cast this slipped you by.... INTRODUCING A NEW TYPE OF PHOTOGRAPH https://vastphotos.com/

There's a pic of lightning in there.... have a read. Completely absolutely mind numbing.

I have switched to using my phone for all of my photography. I am very happy with the results I get. For the most part it's only for social media so I don't worry too much about the quality, just the quality of the composition.
