Your Text: Insert Slimies » Insert UBB Code » Close Last Tag \| All Tags UBB Help	Netscape 6 was a complete overhaul of the Netscape browser, and the first to be based on Gecko, the rendering engine behind the [url=http://www.mozilla.org/]Mozilla[/url] open-source project. The purpose of the project was to build a modern, standards-compliant browser from scratch, completely ditching the outdated Netscape 4. Unfortunately, the first version of Netscape 6 was buggy and was generally considered a premature product. It was refined in subsequent versions. As of now, Netscape 6 is obsolete; The latest available version of Netscape is 7.1. In July 2003, however, AOL (Netscape's parent company) announced the discontinuation of the Netscape browser, and disbanded all remaining developers. But just recently, AOL reversed its own decision and announced that a new version of Netscape, to be based on Mozilla 1.7, will be released in the summer of 2004.
