Well, my brand new yoyojam patriot arrived in the mail and I have to admit it's a really addicting diversion for me. I've even done a few tricks so it was a worthwhile purchase.

Of course, I've also got a big bruise on my wrist as a testament to my hand coordination skills (or lack thereof). Still, I'll be back to practicing during the long, boring nightshift.

It had better be as good as yoyofreak's or i'm not wasting my time.

Hehe. The video won't come until after my wrist heals and, oh, about 2 years of practice.

The hardest part is getting the damn thing to spin really fast. I mean really fast. As it is, I've only got a few seconds to play around before I have to reel it in. Oh, and I've almost cut my finger off four times. Gotta love this thing.

It's all in the wrist, baby. All in the wrist...

*sigh* I want ot buy a yo-yo...but there's two decisive factors preventing me from buying one.

1. I don't have any money; and

2. There's nowhere around here to buy one.

I've long since stopped trying to purchase yoyo's.. The cats always end up stealing them.

Now as to bruised wrists.... Anyone else out there old enough to remember Klackers (a.k.a. Klick-Klacks, Whackers, Poppers, etc..)?

You are that old huh.. If you could remember 1971 then you should be around 5, 6 or 7 at that time.
It took me 3 more years to get even born...

Ahh, it's not so much gibberish. You just need to know a couple things. The Duncan Freehand is a yo-yo (surprise) with similiar characteristics. "Star burst Response system" is a little tougher to explain. If you take this yo-yo apart (so there's two halves you'll see in a ring around the axle some little lines sticking out. These starbursts create friction at the bottom of the string so you are able to bring the yo-yo out of your sleepers (instead of having it stay at the bottom, which many people complain of their yo-yos not coming up...so if you have star bursts, basically you don't have an excuse). Wide gapped means theres a good sized distance between the two halves when you screw the yo-yo together. This means you can fit more string in between the halves and allow more craziness a la YoYoFreak. Most yo-yos these days have ball bearings inside them so they spin longer. Some yo-yos can be considered smooth on the string. This means that if the yo-yo is spinning on some string it will be able to slide back and forth without catching (returning to you without warning). Responsive simply means it will come when you call it.

So there you have it. Now wasn't that better than work? Heh, well, at least if yo-yos is ever a category in Jeopardy you can impress your friends.

Skaarj, I ordered mine over the internet from a link yoyofreak posted. If they'll ship it here, they should be able to ship it to Australia. I figure it was 2 or 3 weeks total for shipping and the total price was $20USD all told.

And yes, it is a blast to play with especially since I got night shift this week and I'm working alone.

As far as performance, it's a good buy but the learning curve is pretty steep. It took 3 days just to reliably get it to come back, but with practice you can get it to sleep for a long time.

I believe the worst part is when the string gets tangled on the way up and you don't know about it. Then you throw it down expecting it to come back when it hits the end of the string, and that sucker goes about a foot and comes back traveling at about 80mph. That's when you can tell if you've got fast reflexes, or a sore wrist.

At this point, I can do the simple stuff like walking the dog and rock the baby. I can do the man on the trapeze, but it'll take some practice to do it reliably. *sigh* I think half the fun is in the nostalgia. It's a far cry from the cheap yoyos you win at the fair even though as a kid I could do some really good looping tricks with those.

Too bad I can't play with it for more than an hour before my finger turns purple from lack of circulation. Then again, I hear dark red grooves around your middle finger make you look cool.

Try this move silence...called Bow and Arrow:

Drop it into a sleeper, bring the thumb of your string hand down so it's resting against the string with a 2 - 3 inch gap between your thumb and your string finger. Grab the string with your other handand pull it back over your thumb like your drawing a bowstring...let it go, and the jolt when the yo-yo drops again should get it to come back up.
