Dufty: I'd seen something on it and it sounds like they took just the essence of the idea and built a new film on it - it can never beat the original.

Sounds typically Hollywood:

A: Take a great idea.
B: Spend millions of dollars on convoluting it and twisting it beyond all recognition.
C: Attempt to rake back those dollars by throwing in a couple of big names.
