here is the situation .. a friend of my sisters worked on their computer and he speaks better spanish then english .. so he switched the settings of Microsoft Word to read in spanish .. ie .. instead of 'File' it reads 'Archivo' .. and that goes for the rest of the menu's within the program .. now I'm trying to change it back to English but I'm having difficulty configuring MS Word to do what I ask it to do .. I've tried options and the control panel .. but still no luck .. has anyone ever tried such a thing .. and could advice me in the right direction to change it back to reading in English

matter of fact I just noticed in the control panel .. all icons read english accept one .. the one that doesn't read english is the one with the lighting bolt and benoculars .. and it reads 'Busqueda Rapida' .. the rest of the Icons read english .. this is weird .. having done more looking on my sisters system .. it is selective spanish here and english there .. I've done a search on microsoft.com .. but I haven't found the answers I'm looking for .. anyone's help is greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

I don't think MS Word has an option to change the language of the menus and dialogs and so on. When I install the Brazilian-Portuguese version of it in my system, all the stuff is in Brazilian-Portuguese, and if I install the US-English version, all the stuff is in English and there is no way for one to become the other or vice-versa. They have a different public, they are sold in different countries and when you buy you have to choose the version you want, if your country provides more than one language.
You cannot even upgrade installations of different languages.
Maybe this guy has installed the Spanish version in a machine that had previously an English version and this messed up the DLLs a bit.
This is my guessing.

In Tools>>Language (In word)

There's the ability to set a language but for me it didn't switch any of the file settings. (I think it only sets the language for the dictionary etc.)

In the control panel there should be a "Regional Options" application (Win 2K). You can see what the settings in there are as well. I don't know what this does since I've never used it but your answer might be in there.

Tools/Language, in MS Word, is to set the dictionary, not to modify the language in which the menus and dialogs are set.
Regional Options, in the Control Panel, is to set how the computer will format number, currency, time, date, etc, to set up languages for the keyboard but NOT to modify the language in which the menus and dialogs are set.
You must buy the whole thing, be it an MS OS or the MS Office, to have the language you want in the menus, dialogs, etc...

yeah, the different languages as considered different versions...

Here in P.R. you run into Spanish versions of [Windows] software all the time and they aren't interchangeble like in Linux..

To me, I think it's pointless- I can't say I actually read the menu options in most software, Spanish software to me is annoying... The menu options are just a word that means "Does this..."... the meaning of the word itself is irrelevant...

Would you buy an item named 'Windows' of you were looking for an operating system?
