Topic awaiting preservation: Problems rendering fonts (Page 1 of 1)

Sometimes my browser renders the pages okay but sometimes it renders them badly - usually when the background is dark. I have no idea why this is happening. If some smart soul has a clue, please, let me know for I'd love to fix this problem. Below is a picture showing the differences between the correct and the wrong way sthe texts are rendered in my system.

What did you do to the bad rendered fonts compared with the good ones?
that could give some clou.. for instance size could be a problem.

What do you mean?
I have cut and pasted, into the sample above, parts of the same page. Sometimes it's rendered perfectly, sometimes it's rendered badly. As I said, I have no idea why my system renders the same page differently.
I have had an idea: I will take a look at how Netscape or Mozilla render the pages; also, I think that the problem occurs mostly in this site that I have developed as a final project for a course. It has style sheet switching on-the-fly and maybe this is triggering some problem.

I think I have found the problem. Well, if not the problem, at least a solution.
After some tests, I started suspecting that the video driver was to blame (it's the most recent release, btw). So, I played with the advanced controls of it (I have an ATI AIW 8500DV) and I found out that, in the Display Properties dialog, Advanced button, then Troubleshoot tab, then the slider Hardware acceleration. It was fully to the right. I slided it to the left one division, enough to show up a message saying "Disable cursor and bitmap accelerations". After this, I don't have that problem anymore.
Does anyone know what are the implications of not having cursor and bitmap accelerations? What am I missing?

viol, glad you fixed the problem. I was wondering about what was going on myself. I have never had it happen but if I do then I know how to fix it

It seems that by adjusting this it lets certain things render "better". I did a good search for "cursor and bitmap accelerations" and it popped up a few things that had the same problems. It doesn't look like it will do any harm, only good.

I believe I used to have a similar problem (as well as a friend of mine) and I believe it was also with an ATI card. The fonts would render badly or transparencies would render incorrectly. If I opened another window over it, then switched back, they would be okay.

I haven't noticed any problems with more recent cards, though. Is this an older ATI card?
