I just read that one of our ISP's offers VDSL with 26Mbit (up and down) for about 50US$/month.

Unfortunately not available where I live at the moment, but they are planning an expansion of 42 new base stations within three months, so with a bit of luck...

It would be a nice little upgrade from my home connection today where I pay 40$ for 640/256 kbit

Keep your fingers crossed

And, save for downloading movies and other illegal suchlike... why would anyone want such a terrifyingly fast connection? You know, at some point it's limited to the speed of the other providers, not the speed you're able to get it. I don't think that it matters much if you get a HTML page in 0.01 seconds instead of 0.1 second.

Or is it the simple "I've got a faster connection than you" argument?

Majhqa: You *know* all I want it for is a pissing contest
(my pipe is bigger than yours )

Actually I don't DL movies and stuff (why would I want crappy cam's or DV-rips?), but just getting a slightly faster connection than I have today has so far costed me a lot more than this massive pipe.

A simple(!) 2,5mbit has so far costed more than this, and a 8mbit costed about 120$, so it's basicly faster AND cheaper...

According to what information I have right now, you'll better start packing!

AFAIK all ISP's in Sweden run flat-rate.

*Feeling jealous*

I've heard that almost everybody already had optic fiber in Sweden... That was not that false

DL and Mahjqa : there is also another big interest in having a very quick connection (at least I see one for me).

When you don't pay for an internet domain and only use free providers, you have to compose with the few amount of space and the limitations of the server, both in functionalities (PHP options), and in speed. If someone has this type of connection he/she can makes something very interesting. First, grabing a constant redirect on no-ip.com for example, and then installing a server on a machine (a linux would do that very well). The users of your website will use your connection, ok. But tell me do you really need constantly this speed ? Then you have a enormous advantage : YOU configure entirely the server (the PHP options for example), and the amount of space is illimited.

Interesting no ?

Now I'm getting jealous I want that connection....damn I should start packing I think that climate would be about the same.

I think that my connect right now is only 1.5Mbit down and 512k up...which is good but I want to get a pipe enlargement......hehehe

I'm in Sweden too, and I've got ADSL at 2.5Mb down and 1Mb up plus a fixed IP all at flat rate. I'm paying appr $45/month for this and it's quite enough for me.

I've seen a big drive in stockholm that offers 10Mb/10Mb at the same price but I don't know about fixed IP on that one.

The 26Mb/s... Havn't seen that one yet, which ISP is that?

Hi Dan

It was all over the IDG-site yesterday (for you Swedish speakers, click here
The ISP is Bostream and you get fixed IP's.
Bostream info page

To get this fat pipe however, you have to live close to the relay station. Less than 300m = 26mbps, 300-1000 =up to 13mbps

Heh...
I'm running xstream at Bostream now, I'll be covered in july unfortunatley I'll probably just reach 8-13 mbps. But I can use the reduced connection price and it's 1 SEK (laugh) cheaper than what I pay now...

We'll see what the holidays may bring...
