Topic awaiting preservation: Writers program...?

This is a computer program I've seen only on TV.
But I've never been able to understand the name of it.
Writers use it.
Writing manuscripts for novels.
I think I saw it in Greenlight - the tv show about a writer who got a chance to direct a movie based on his own script. A production by Affleck and company.
And I've seen a few others use the same!

Anyway - cause this was a lot of useless information - does anyone know what writers use?

It's not Word, WordPad or Notpad.

I should point out that the majority of software you see on TV and in films doesn't 'exist' as a product.

There are a lot of products that do what you are talking about.

My dad uses "Final Draft" - that is the only one I know offhand.

Emperor. There is not much I can tell you. I even videotaped an episode just to get a glims of the name of the program by freezing the picture. But it was too blury.
Oh, one thing is the same everytime I see it/them: the text is at the center of the screen. As a block, as if in a smaller table. I think that is adjustable, but it pretty much looks lake a standard look.
I can also say that it looks like a Windows thing.
And I know what you mean by them never 'existing', like the mighty programs of C.S.I, Matrix or likewise.
But this is real interview TV. No fiction. They show how a real writer works, but unfortunally just blinks on their screen while working.

If you're writing a manuscript for a novel, you don't need anything special. For US publishers, format it as 12pt Courier, double-spaced, one-inch margin on all sides. Do not double-space between paragraphs, indent them by a half-inch. No bold or italic, use underlining instead. In other words, make it look like you did it on a typewriter.

If it's screenplays you're writing, that's completely different. Google on screenplay word processor and take your pick. Final Draft, as mentioned by jdauie, is one of them.
