Interesting article about micropayments, Google's new focused ads, etc.:

Thanks for that, Emps.
CafeExpress's new service looks pretty tasty.

wj: Yeah but as with all the CP services the returns are slim but it might be an interesting stepping stone to getting a full book deal. I think if you wanted to do this a bit more seriously you might be better off looking into a print on demand services (like Rinswind mentioned a while back).

Are we going to see Tech Slop the Book?

I took note when Rins mentioned it. Thankfully, this little town that I live in has a printer. I'll pay them a visit this coming week during my vacation. Vacation! No kids!

Most likely a book if I can figure out a few things. Been running into some interesting blocks. But it's fun. Right now I'm looking at just over a 300 page PDF of my stuff. Of course, some of it is white space from "orphaning" pages.

wj: Ooooooooooooooo - sweet. I'm sure there are plenty of inmates here who'd be happy to read through things for you.

Have you thought about setting up something where people could download the PDF for a few bucks?

Shooting for a content CD with HTML, PDF, and some included files.
However, I do like the idea of starting with a downloadable PDF. I don't have a server, though. Any ideas of a place to set up something like this? Isn't there an e-book site for just this kind of thing?

I really wanted to avoid talking about these things, but I guess this is a good a time as any.
Bleh!

wj: I'll have a look around - if someone like Amazon don't offer to handle payments for you then I'd be suprised (there was something like this a while back 'brain something'/'something brain' but I'm not sure if it still runs.

Some links:

The problem is that everyone and their dog has advice on publishin eBooks - but they are all eBooks..........

Perhaps an interesting route might be to make it available to download and distribute (P2P) and then have a bit "If you enjoyed this visit this page and donate some cash" - you'd get 10s of thousands of readers and if they all threw a few bucks at you.......]

Hehe, it seems that the key to make money on the web is to : make the users pay to tell them how to make users pay. Funny.

Now this is an interesting story emps.
Imagine this:
You have written a book of some kind. You made it up an a standard based size.
People can read online or order a printed version off it and read it in their beds.
They could easily pay through some micropayement system.
The only thing you need know is a network off local printshops which are able to print the book.
The local printer is important other wise shipping would be very expensive.
With other words the internet should handle the transportation to the bookstore....or it's purchasing organisation.
Then truly everyoen could be his own publisher gain some money.

wj: If the money isn't that important I think emp's idea is a good... That is the fastest way to gain lots of readers. If you release it as a pdf it will get distributed (p2p) even if you don't allow it, so you might as well allow them to share it in the first place.
