Hi all,

Soon I want to move my website from one URL to another (I registered the 2nd one and currently if you go to it - it forwards you to the first URL.)

My web host tells me that in order to actually switch URLs, i will have to get a new account with them and physically move everything over.

I was wondering what you guys would suggest as the best strategy. My concerns are that old visitors still be able to find the new URL. Also, the old URL comes up in searches on search engines. I guess it would take some time for the new site to get indexed.

Maybe the best thing to do is have two sites running for a few months and slowly transition out the old one.

what do you guys think?

Thanks Much,

Eric

If I understand you correctly, you`re renaming your site and switching domain names ?
Leave the old site live as long as you can, redirect from there to the new site with a note about updating bookmarks. Email your *old visitors*, if possible.
And yea, the Search Engines will have to catch up again.

Uh...you shouldn't need to make a complete copy of your site just to change domain names...if anything you should be able to link more than one domain up to a single acount, thereby haveing both of them access the one site.

If I link both sites to the same account, can I update my e-mail address too?
