ok, was on my machine last night (win2k, athlon 800 mhz old architecture on biostar m7mka mobo, 384mb RAM, gainward geforce 3, sound blaster audigy, plextor cd-r, toshiba dvd) and the vector internet monitor component of zone alarm (vsmon.exe) seemed to be taking up a lot of system resources, not a lot of CPU power but a lot of memory. i tried reinstalling zone alarm but things were still sluggish, had been surfing for a while and rebooted. the machine came back up to a log-in box, then just clicked off and rebooted. since then i've gotten the exact same thing on multiple reboots. i tried switching out the video card and pulled out a stick of memory i installed a few weeks ago to no effect. this is looking very not good and i've got no idea where to even start to fix the prob as i can't get into windows to check anything out. thoughts/help/advice? thanks. |

I remember getting this same problem a while back. Turns out it was some corrupted system files or something. |

You should be able to boot from the install cd. Once you get in you can repair . |

i was actually able to boot into safe mode, apply the blaster fix (which said i didn't have anything) then apply the win2k fix and updated service pack. when i was finally able to do a normal boot, avg (which i had updated yesterday) told me it found the nachi worm and deleted it. go figure |
